In-Sik Hwang - Club Director

In-Sik Hwang is the Director of Memphis Volleyball Academy. During his tenure, he has coached several teams to the USAV Nationals. In 2021, his 15 Red team finished as National Runner-Up in the USA Division. In 2022, his 12 Red team finished 7th in the USA Division while his 16 Red team finished 5th in the USA Division. In 2023, his 17 Red team finished 5th and his 13 Red team finished 3rd in the USAV National Tournament. MVA 13 Red and 17 Red also won the Music City National Qualifier in New Orleans and the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta, GA in the 2023 season.

In-Sik is the former Head Volleyball Coach at Christian Brothers University where he coached for 18 seasons and earned the GSC West Coach of the Year Award in 2010,2012, and 2016. In 2010 he led the Lady Bucs to a 9-3 GSC West mark that was the best finish in 14 years of GSC West play for CBU. In 2008 Hwang broke the record for most wins in a season and in 2011 he became the winningest volleyball coach in CBU history. The 2011 season highlights included an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. Additionally, three members were placed on the ALL-GSC team, 2 were named All-Region, and one All-American. In the 2012 season his team played for the Gulf South Conference Championship and made their second appearance at the NCAA tournament advancing to the semifinals thus placing in the top 32 teams. 

Before accepting the position as the Head Volleyball Coach at CBU in 2002, In-Sik was the Head Volleyball Coach at LaVergne High School where he was honored as the Conference Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2001. He was also honored as the Conference Coach of the Year at Franklin High School in 1999. In-Sik graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1998 from Middle Tennessee State University where he held the position as Assistant Volleyball Coach and helped guide the Blue Raiders to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1995.

Kim Robinson - Master Coach

Kim Robinson has 18 years of coaching experience along with 19 years of playing indoor/outdoor volleyball.  She is the current Head Volleyball Coach for Northpoint Christian School. She is the former Head Volleyball Coach of the Memphis Nighthawks and the former Assistant Volleyball Coach for Saint George's Varsity Volleyball Team. A New Orleans native, she learned at an early age about dedication and teamwork to a sport she instantly fell in love with. She was a high school  letterman with All Conference and All Tournament  awards.  She also played at the University of New Orleans.  During  high school  is where her volleyball  career shifted to beach.  Playing  in over 200 volleyball  tournaments  nationwide, she holds a current membership in LOVA.  She earned many accolades, one of which includes representing  USA in a match vs. JAMAICA.  Before  moving to Memphis , she coached at the club level, as well as coaching middle school and high school.   Kim worked/played and was a member of the staff of the Coconut Beach Volleyball Complex;  a 22 sand-court facility where clinics, camps, AVP tournaments were held year around, as well as hosting 180 team leagues.  She a personal trainer/strength coach/sports nutritionist.  She has worked  for the DAC where she coached/trained volleyball  players and athletes to obtain their highest level of competition. She continues to participate in beach volleyball activities and maintains a high level of personal fitness as she works with her clients.  Kim is very excited to be apart of the MVA staff and to use her experiences and skills to guide young athletes and help each one improve, not only their own level of skills and fitness, but also to nurture each in developing a love of the sport.

Allison Burchyett - Master Coach

Allison is the current Head Volleyball Coach at Northwest Community College. She is the former Head Volleyball Coach for Lewisburg High School. She is also the former Head Volleyball Coach at Southaven High School where she coached for 13 years and  led the Lady Chargers to three state titles.  Her coaching background also includes time at Lafayette, Jonesboro, Ark. Valley View and Willow Springs, Mo.  This will be Allison's 6th season coaching with MVA.  Allison's high level volleyball knowledge makes her a great asset to the MVA staff!

Mike Dedman - Master Coach

Mike played and/or coached with various men’s USVBA teams in the Delta and Southern Regions from 1986 to 1995. In 1991 Mike was a player-coach for the men’s A Division Delta Region Champions and later that year played with a men’s Open team that finished 13th overall at U.S Nationals.  In 1993 Mike was a player-coach at the 1993 Men’s US Open. Mike presently coaches the lower school varsity team at Northpoint Christian School where in 7 years his school teams have won 2 PAA championships, 3 Shelby Metro championships and is currently riding an 85 match win streak with 11 straight tournament titles and 4 straight league titles. He is in his 11th year at MVA and is USAV CAP I certified.

Blythe Clausen - Master Coach

Blythe is in her 5th season coaching for MVA. She is currently the Head Coach for the 8th grade volleyball team at Saint George's Independent School. She is a former player for Christian Brothers University where she held the position of Defensive Specialist\Libero.  Blythe majored in Psychology and she currently works as a Behavior Technician for children with autism at the ABC center.  Blythe specializes in training our DS and liberos at MVA.  She is our go to Clinic Coach for our players looking to improve their back row skills.  

Blythe has a fantastic personality and the players respond very well to her coaching style.  She is very energetic and has a real passion for the game and for Coaching.

Christina Morgan - Master Coach

Christina Morgan is a native of DeSoto County who attended Sacred Heart School from K-8 and graduated from Horn Lake High School. She played on the first ever club volleyball team in DeSoto County (Lady Blazers) growing up. She played volleyball at the varsity level all 4 years of high school.  While attending Horn Lake High, Christina was on the first ever state championship team in the state of Mississippi in 1995.  She was named all district and all county in 1996 and 1997 where she helped lead her team to the North Half championship both years.  She was also named all state in 1997. 

She coached for the Lady Blazers Club team and refereed volleyball while attending college.  She graduated from the University of Mississippi and received her first job as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Horn Lake High in 2005-2006. When Lake Cormorant first opened its doors in 2006, she began the volleyball program there starting with only 7th and 8th graders.  Each year the school added a grade and when the school was first able to compete for a state title in 2009, her team (LCHS) won the 5A Class II state championship.  She has gone on to win two more state championships in 2012 and 2013. She has also led her team to win 5 out of the last 8 district championships, four North Half championships, and three county championships.

She was named MAC coach of the year in 2010 and 2012.  She was also named Chickasaw Conference coach of the year in both 2009 and 2010.  She was named coach of the year by the NFHS in 2011.  She was chosen as the Mississippi North All Star coach in both 2010 and 2012.  In 2017 she was selected as the Desoto County Volleyball Tournament Coach Of The Year. She has had over ten of her players go on to play collegiate volleyball and receive scholarships. 

Christina earned her Master’s degree recently in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.  Christina has a daughter, Madison, who has been a part of our program since 2011 and she has committed to playing volleyball for Christian Brothers University.

Madison Stevens - Master Coach

Madison played for MVA for 8 seasons.  She attended Lake Cormorant High School were she lead her team to two state runner up titles.  At Lake Cormorant, Madison was chosen as All County all four years of high school and was named MVP of the county her senior year.  She also was named All State her Junior and Senior year. She played for the Mississippi North All Star team and was chosen Memphis Best of Preps three years in high school.  Madison is a former collegiate player for Christian Brothers University (libero).  She specializes in defensive specialist/libero training and setting training.  Madison assisted MVA with practice coaching and clinics for 2 seasons before becoming a Head Coach in 2019. Madison has received rave reviews from our players! She has great knowledge of the game and her love for it shows in her play and coaching.  

Joy Dedman - Senior Coach

Joy has an extensive background in volleyball and we are very excited to have her join our MVA staff.  She is the former Head Volleyball Coach for NCS where she coached for 19 years.  Four of her teams have made TSSAA Sub-state appearances and one team has been to the TSSAA State tournament.  She was named TSSAA Division II-A West Region Coach of the Year in 2010.  Joy began her volleyball career playing in Junior High and continued playing in High School where she also played on a Junior Olympic team.  Joy was named Best of the Preps Athlete of the Year in 1987.  She continued her volleyball career playing on a full volleyball scholarship at Christian Brothers University from 1987-1991.  She was TCAC All-Conference all 4 years and made the NAIA All-District Team 2 years.  She played USVBA for the Delta Region from 1991-1992 and helped lead the team in winning the Delta Region Championship in 1992.  This is Joy’s 7th year coaching at MVA.  

Kristi Thurman - Senior Coach

Kristi is a native Memphian and attended Bishop Byrne High School. During her high school athletic career, she was a 7 time 1st team Tennessee All State High School player in 3 different sports – volleyball, basketball and softball.  She received the Commercial Appeal Best of Preps - Athlete of the Year and was a Best of Preps top 5 finalist in volleyball, softball and basketball. She also received the honor of being selected to the USA Today All-USA Girls Basketball 2nd team.

Kristi received a full athletic scholarship to Division 1 Troy University and was a 4-year starter for the Volleyball Team.  She holds the university’s record for the highest Attack Percentage, most Service Aces, the highest Service Ace percentage per set and the university’s record for Total Blocks.  She is also in the record books for Solo Blocks and Block Assist. During her collegiate career at Troy University, she received 1st team All-Conference honors 2 years in a row, 2nd team All-Conference 1 year, 1st team All-Conference Academic for 2 years, multiple all-tournament team awards and tournament MVP honors.  She graduated with a BS and MS after working as a Graduate Assistant Coach for 2 years.  

She is currently in her 5th season of coaching volleyball at Sacred Heart School and in her 4th  season of coaching at MVA.  Her twin daughters, Hassie Clare and Quinn, share her love of volleyball and are starting their 6th season with MVA!

Zina Johnson - Senior Coach

Zina is the current Head Volleyball Coach at Central High School in Memphis and is the former Head Volleyball Coach of Southwind High School.  She is in her 6th year of coaching club volleyball with MVA.  Zina played at Burrillville High School where she led her team to an undefeated season and won the RI State Championship. She was recruited and played at RI College before transferring to Cumberland University in Middle Tennessee.  She was a member of the 1991 TCAC regular season championship team.  She then went on to be an Assistant Coach for Cumberland for two more years before coaching at Mt Juliet High School and Wilson Central High School. She currently teaches in addition to coaching  at Central High School  She is married to William Johnson (22 years)  and is the proud Mama to four daughters: Elena (MVA Alumni, playing for Tougaloo College), Hannah, Whitley, and Sarah.  

Jade Pham - Head Coach

Jade Dedman Pham has been playing/ been involved in volleyball for about 14 years. She played from 5th to 12th grade for Northpoint Christian School where she was named TSSAA All-Region Honorable Mention her 10th and 11th grade years, First Team All-Region her senior year, and received the Wendy’s Heisman award.  She also played 3 years of club volleyball at MVA.  She coached 3 years at Northpoint Christian School for the youth teams and she is the former Head Volleyball Coach for Olive Branch Middle School. This will be her 6th year coaching with MVA.  Jade is impact certified and very knowledgeable in the sport.  

David Culver - Head Coach

This is David's second season coaching with Memphis Volleyball Academy. He is the current Full-Time Assistant Coach at Northwest Community College, where he coaches along side Northwest's Head Coach, Allison Burchyett. David operated as the Club Director for Desoto Legacy Volleyball from 2015 - 2019. During David's club coaching career, he has fulfilled a variety of coaching roles for multiple teams. David loves this sport, and he loves being able to engage, push and motivate student-athletes. We are very excited to have David be a part of our MVA Coaching Staff!

Aldon Pilz - Head Coach

Aldon is from Waynesville, MO.  She has played 10 years of competitive volleyball. She also played four seasons on her high school varsity team where she was selected as All Conference her junior and senior year. She currently plays volleyball at Christian Brothers University where she holds the position of Setter. She is in her third season coaching at MVA. She really enjoys working with our youth program and sharing her love of the sport with our MVA players. 

Karla Gonzalez - Head Coach

Karla started her volleyball career at Lake Cormorant High School. She played competitive volleyball for 6 seasons. While playing at Lake Cormorant she won the 2020 5A State Championship. She specializes in DS/Libero training at MVA. She also assist Coach In-Sik Hwang with his MVA summer camps and skills clinics. This will be Karla’s 2nd season coaching with MVA. She is very excited to be apart of the MVA family and looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the game with young athletes!

Melissa Fuller - Head Coach

Melissa is the current Head Volleyball Coach and Athletic Director for Lake Cormorant Middle School. She has been at LCMS her entire teaching career of over 13 years. Melissa also brings over 13 years of coaching experience in various sports that includes, softball, track, football, and volleyball.  Melissa is Cap I certified and she is in her 3rd year coaching with Memphis Volleyball Academy.

Brinley Steed - Head Coach

Brinley played at MVA for 6 seasons and has been coaching for 3 seasons! She attended Center Hill High where she and her team won the 2019 5A state championship and she earned All Region in her county! Brinley also went on after high school and played at Northwest for 2 years! She specializes in setter training as she has been a setter for 7 years! She looks forward to bringing her knowledge of volleyball and sharing with other players!

Katelyn Rich - Head Coach

Katelyn Rich began her volleyball career playing for Southaven High School where she played four years and won a state championship. Katelyn also played competitive volleyball for Memphis Metro during her high school years. She is currently the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Lake Cormorant High School where she works under the tutelage of Christina Morgan, who has won several state championships and has been a part of the MVA program since 2011. This is Katelyn's 4th season coaching with MVA. Katelyn is very excited to continue her love of volleyball with helping young athletes rise to their full potential.

Kaylie Groves - Head Coach

Kaylie is one of the original members of Memphis Volleyball Academy. Kaylie played for MVA when they first opened their doors in 2010 -2012. Kaylie also played for the Olive Branch High School Team.  Most recently she has taken on the task of building up the volleyball program at Olive Branch High School as their Head Coach. She specializes in middle hitter training and front row offense. Kaylie has an energetic personality and will be a great fit in coaching our younger age groups. She looks forward to working at MVA and to help other young players find their passion in volleyball like she found at MVA.

Caroline Aldridge - Head Coach

Caroline just completed her first year of coaching at Lewisburg High School as the freshman head coach, as well as an assistant for the JV and Varsity. Prior to this year she was an assistant coach at Pontotoc High/Junior High School, where the Warriors won the 2021 Mississippi 4A State Championship. Caroline started her volleyball career at MVA in 2012 when she was 11 years old. She had a prep career at Lewisburg Middle/High School as a setter. After high school Caroline signed to the first ever volleyball team at Blue Mountain College and then later transferred to compete on the inaugural team at Northwest Community College to finish her volleyball career. This is her second year coaching at MVA!!

Caroline Drissel Lewis - Head Coach

Caroline is on her 3rd season coaching for MVA. This last school season she coached Northpoint Christian schools Freshman team. She also coached Arlington Middle schools 5/6th grade team for 3 years and Arlington volleyball club for 3 years. Caroline has played 7 years of club volleyball and ended her career on Coach In-Sik's 18's Adidas Team. Caroline is a Senior at the University of Memphis and is studying to become a Speech Therapist. Caroline looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the game and having another successful season.

Loni Cook - Head Coach

Loni played both school and competitive volleyball for 7 seasons. She attended Desoto Central High School where she helped lead her team to a State Championship and two state runner-up titles. At Desoto Central, Loni was selected for the 2018 Mississippi North Half All-State Volleyball team, Mississippi Clarion Ledger Volleyball Top Performer, Mississippi Clarion Ledger Player of the Week, Second Team All-State for Mississippi, and Volleyball Honorable Mention All-County. Loni is a student teacher at Oak Grove Elementary in Hernando. She is an MVA alumni and she’s excited to share her knowledge and love for the sport this season with other players!
